Massing Development

Here is my second massing development.

For this massing I decided to represent the organic movement in between the gate like structures with sharp undulating forms.

Like the first iteration the red components represents the vertical elements found in my study models and the gray components represent a connection to these vertical planes. The purple component represents the theater space and this space sticks out of the massing to emphasize its importance as the focal point of the building.

I also changed the orientation of the vertical planes to align with the Brooklyn Heights grid in doing so I was able to create to entrances/exits that are more accessible for the Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights communities.

Assignment 11 Programmatic Study & Development

Here is my initial attempt at a massing model in rhino based on my concept models.

The red components of the model represent the vertical elements found in my study models and
the gray components represent a connection to these vertical planes. The hierarchy in the heights of the planes represent the three components of a performance: the beginning, middle and end.

Then I started cutting into the space of the model and experimenting with the types of spaces in my typologies as well as how they could fit into the massing model.

Assignment 9 Hybrid Model

The following models are a  hybrid incorporating elements form these three models.

Model 1

Model 2

Model 3

 Hybrid Model Initial Attempt

In this model, I kept hierarchy pattern found in model 1 but couldn't connect the spaces as organically as model 2 or intertwine the spaces as well as model 3. I tried to use tracing paper as a substitute for the wire mesh but it wasn't as strong.

 Hybrid Model 2nd Attempt

This time decided to stay true to the hierarchy pattern in model 1 but the connection of spaces were to rigid as less organic so it didn't represent the elements found in models 2 and 3 as well as I had hoped.

Assignment 8 Concept Models Based On Collages

Impression Of Site

Here are my models based on my impression of the site collage.

For this model I thought about my first person perspective of my collage and tired to visualize how I wanted the space to work. The entry and exits would be a small, narrow space building up to a larger space in the center which would be a the focal point of the space.

For this model I had a similar thought process to the first model but wanted to establish a connection with the space created.

In this model the vertical elements represent the urban context as seen in my collage and the wire mesh represents the forest. The horizontal elements represent the circulation through the space, the circulation gradually gets smaller as you go up.

Program

These models are based on my program collage.

In this model  I thought about the seats of the auditorium found in my collage.

This model represents the sounds and notes of music as seen in my collage and how they move through space.

This model represents the movement and circulation of the dancers in my collage.

Strand

The following models are based on my strand collage.

This model represents strand by establishing a diagonal connection. A strand is a connection between spaces and that connection doesn't have to be orthogonal, in this case it is diagonal.

In this model I thought about beginning, middle and end which is represented by the vertical elements and how the strand represented by the wire mesh moves through them.

This time I thought about how a connection can travel in a different way from what I have previously done. I came up with the idea of the connection intertwining with itself, warping around and returning.
